What is Breast Augmentation?

A Breast Augmentation also referred to as a boob job or breast implants, can enhance your appearance, balance your body proportions and boost your self-confidence. It is one of the most common cosmetic surgeries performed in the United States. If you are considering a breast augmentation, Dr. Heidari will evaluate your unique characteristics and discuss with you what size and type of implant might be best for you.

There are two types of breast implants: saline and silicone. A saline implant is a solid silicone shell filled with a saltwater solution known as saline. If the implant leaks, the saline is absorbed into the body – it is the same solution as the saline given in IV fluid. Newly improved FDA-approved silicone gel-filled implants are now also available for patients 22 years or older. Extensive research and development have gone into these new silicone implants to make them safer and feel more natural. What’s the First Step?

If you are interested in getting a Breast Augmentation in the Inland Empire, the first step is to contact our office that is most convenient for you to set up a consultation with Dr. Heidari. When you come in for this appointment, you will meet with him and discuss your goals from the surgery. You will also be able to ask any questions, go over your options for the type and size of your implant, and receive an evaluation by Dr. Heidari. We will need to discuss your medical history, which is kept completely confidential but allows the surgeon to make the safest and best choices for you. Once all of this information has been gone over, Dr. Heidari will create a surgical plan that is best for you.

After you and Dr. Heidari are satisfied with the plan, you will get with our Patient Coordinator and schedule your surgical date. They will also give you a list of instructions to follow that will encourage a safer and more successful operation.

What to Expect on the Day of Breast Augmentation

When you come in for your Breast Augmentation surgery, you will begin by receiving the anesthesia discussed during your consultation, which will be done under general anesthesia.

When it’s time for your surgery, Dr. Heidari will first make an incision in one of two places under the breast or around the areola. This location will have already been discussed in your previous appointment and will be recommended as to which is best for your situation with any scarring being as inconspicuous as possible. After the incision is made, a pocket is created either under the breast tissue or under the pectoral muscle and is made just large enough to accommodate the implant. The implant is then positioned to give the best cosmetic result.

Once Dr. Heidari is satisfied with the placement of the implant, the incision will be closed with layers of sutures in the breast tissue, followed by additional sutures, skin adhesive, or surgical tape to close the skin.

Breast Augmentation Recovery

Following surgery, a gauze dressing is placed on the breast along with a surgical bra to help reduce swelling. You will need to be monitored for a few hours post-surgery, but once Dr. Heidari feels comfortable, you will be released and able to return home. Dr. Heidari will prescribe antibiotics to avoid infection in addition to pain medication. He will also provide you with postoperative instructions for a successful recovery.

You will be required to wear a support bra for four to five weeks around the clock. Swelling, bruising, and numbness, particularly around the incision, are normal and generally subside over about six weeks, but can vary from patient to patient. You should rest for the first few days and avoid any strenuous activities for four to six weeks, or until Dr. Heidari says it’s okay. Most patients return to work in seven to ten days but must initially avoid any heavy lifting.
