When you come in to meet with him, he will listen to your current concerns and goals you’d like to achieve from your surgery, as well as discuss your medical history and evaluate your nose. When discussing your medical history, you must be honest with Dr. Heidari and provide full disclosure. The purpose of this portion of your discussion is to prevent any unnecessary reactions during the procedure and your recovery.

What to Expect on the Day of Rhinoplasty

When you come in for your Rhinoplasty, you will begin by receiving either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia for a more comfortable surgery. After you are under sedation, Dr. Heidari will begin the surgery by separating the skin of the nose from its supporting framework, exposing the bone and cartilage, and allowing them to be sculpted into the desired shape. Any incisions made will be hidden either inside the nose or across the narrow strip of tissue separating the nostrils, called the columella.

If you need to have a deviated septum repaired, it will be straightened out with any projections inside the nose reduced to help improve breathing.

The skin is then re-draped over the new framework and the incisions are closed. After the surgery is complete, Dr. Heidari will apply a splint to help the nose maintain its new shape while it heals. Nasal packs or soft splints may be placed in the nostrils to stabilize the septum during recovery.

Procedure Time: The whole procedure will typically last between 1 and 2 hours, however, more complicated procedures can take longer.

During the first 24 hours post-surgery, your face will feel puffy, your nose may ache, and you may experience a dull headache. You should plan on resting with your head elevated for the first day. There will be swelling and bruising around the eyes, reaching a peak after two to three days.

You will be asked to return seven to ten days after your surgery so Dr. Heidari can examine your healing and remove any packing, dressings, splints, and stitches.
